What is "TSDA"?

TSDA is the acronym meaning Texas State Dance Association.

What is the Texas State Dance Association?

TSDA is a non-profit association comprised of West Coast Swing Dance clubs from all over the state of Texas that come together to enjoy, promote and preserve the dance we call West Coast Swing.   Each year a different club in the association hosts an annual contest in their hometown with all the clubs participating.

Since all the clubs in the association pay a fee to the host club and the clubs themselves are non-profit entities, we are able to provide the dance community with a low cost weekend of social and competition dancing.

  • Dancers pay no entry fee to enter a contest no matter how many they enter (excluding Jack and Jills) At most for-profit events, the entry fees can range from $10 to $50 per contest entered.
  • In most cases the weekend ticket price is much cheaper for TSDA sponsored events. This year the advanced ticket price is only $50.00 for a weekend pass.
  • TSDA contests are geared toward the novice dancer and newer pros. If you're a new dancer, or a new pro, or new to the dance, the TSDA sponsored contests are a great place to get your feet wet.
  • The TSDA events also allow the pros to dance with their students. Each pro can dance with up to seven am's…three students in the Novice Strictly Swing, three students in the Intermediate Strictly Swing and one student in the Pro-Am routine division.

Who can compete in the TSDA events?

To be eligible to dance in a TSDA sponsored event you must be an active member of one of the participating clubs. The reason for this rule is to help the local clubs with membership participation to support themselves and the event.

Can people from out of state compete in the Texas State Dance event?

The answer is yes.

Remember, as long as you are a member in good standing of a club that belongs to the TSDA association you can compete. Example: You live in Arkansas and you came to Dallas Dance last year or perhaps a Texas Classic dance party.  You probably joined one of the clubs for an admission discount.  As a member of a TSDA club you are now eligible to compete in the contest.

This year's event is being hosted by the
Texas Classic Push Club located in the

Dallas - Fort Worth area.

Social dancer, not a competitor?  No problem.  There will be workshops all weekend by some of the top dance pro's. We will offer lots of
social dance time plus late night dancing for the hardy.
